We are looking for a GIS & Annotation Lead to join Google Research, supporting research initiatives that rely on high-quality analysis of imagery and geospatial data.This is a part-time, hourly-based position (approximately 9 hours per week, spread across 2–3 days).

The role combines hands-on analysis of images and aerial imagery within Google GIS systems, along with professional leadership and oversight of annotation activities, including guidance of additional annotators as the project grows.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze images and aerial imagery using Google’s GIS and mapping systems
  • Perform accurate visual interpretation and annotation of geospatial data
  • Identify and classify objects in imagery, such as: Buildings Roads Vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.)
  • Additional man-made and natural features
  • Ensure high annotation quality, consistency, and adherence to research standards
  • Act as a professional focal point for annotation-related questions and methodologies
  • Lead, guide, and support additional annotation staff, including onboarding and quality reviews
  • Collaborate with research teams to support data-driven research goals


Requirements

  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret aerial imagery and visual data
  • Excellent understanding of geospatial concepts and GIS-based analysis
  • Proven capability to distinguish and classify objects in images (e.g., buildings vs. roads vs. different vehicle types)
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently in a research-oriented environment
  • Background as a graduate of IDF Unit 9900 (or equivalent geospatial / imagery analysis experience) - Advantage
  • Experience with image annotation, visual intelligence, or geospatial data labeling - Advantage
  • Previous experience mentoring, guiding, or leading others in analytical or annotation tasks - Advantage
  • Academic background or current studies in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Data, Engineering, or related fields - Advantage
