Role Overview

Qualitest is seeking an experienced Automation Test Lead to support delivery into a public-sector programme. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a proactive, self-starting tester who is comfortable operating independently within an Agile delivery team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the overall test approach across the project, with a strong emphasis on automation, while also overseeing wider testing activities including performance, regression, integration, and tooling strategy.

You will be expected to quickly become a subject matter expert (SME) on the project, challenge assumptions, ask the right questions, and provide clear guidance on quality and testing best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of testing across the project, operating as the sole Test Lead within the Agile team
• Define and implement an automation-first testing strategy
• Design, build, and maintain automated test solutions
• Oversee and advise on functional and non-functional testing, including regression, integration, and performance
• Provide recommendations on tooling, frameworks, and test approaches
• Work closely with developers, architects, and delivery stakeholders to ensure quality is built in from the outset
• Produce and maintain test documentation, including test strategies, approaches, and reporting
• Ensure testing aligns with Agile delivery principles and public-sector standards

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in test automation and API testing
• Hands-on expertise with:
• C#, MS Visual Studio
• Selenium
• BDD - SpecFlow
• RestSharp
• Postman
• JavaScript
• Working knowledge of non-functional testing tools
• Experience using GitHub for version control
• Strong understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns
• Ability to write and interpret complex SQL queries and aware of the concepts involved in Data Testing
• Proven experience delivering technical testing solutions on large-scale projects
• Experience working with cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure
• Understanding of data models and data-driven systems
• Strong experience creating and maintaining test documentation (strategies, approaches, reports)
• Experience testing both front-end and back-end web services
• Solid background working in Agile delivery environments
• Working knowledge of Azure DevOps
