Automation Lead Test Engineer – Playwright (TypeScript)

About the Role

Qualitest is seeking a skilled and client-facing Automation Lead Test Engineer. This role requires a strong blend of functional and automation testing expertise, combined with the ability to operate strategically within a collaborative, stakeholder-driven environment.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality test solutions across web applications, contributing to planning and estimation activities, enhancing automation frameworks, and supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives. The position requires onsite engagement in the London area (hybrid model).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute automated test scripts using Playwright with TypeScript
• Perform comprehensive functional testing across applications to ensure business requirements are met
• Collaborate closely with client stakeholders in a professional, consultative capacity
• Participate in requirements gathering, backlog refinement, and test scenario identification
• Contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and test effort forecasting activities
• Develop and maintain reusable, scalable automation frameworks
• Enhance and optimise existing automation frameworks to improve stability, coverage, and performance
• Integrate automated tests within CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing
• Perform API integration testing to validate system interactions and data integrity
• Provide clear and concise reporting on testing progress, risks, and quality metrics
• Identify improvement opportunities and contribute to quality engineering best practices
• Support defect triage, root cause analysis, and resolution validation
• Engage in stakeholder management and maintain strong client relationships throughout delivery

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Playwright
• Proficiency in TypeScript
• Proven background in both functional and automation testing
• Experience working in client-facing environments
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to planning and quality strategy
• Experience with test estimation, planning, and requirement analysis
• Active BPSS clearance

Desirable Skills

• Experience enhancing or designing automation frameworks
• Experience with API testing and integration validation
• Exposure to CI/CD environments and DevOps practices
