Technical Lead FPGA Engineer - Radio & Communications

We are looking for a Technical Lead Engineer (FPGA) to join a Radio & Communications division and drive the architecture, development, and delivery of advanced communication systems. This role focuses on FPGA-based modem solutions, combining digital design, signal processing, and embedded system integration in high-performance, real-time environments.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across modem and FPGA development activities, guiding engineering teams through the complete product lifecycle while ensuring alignment with system requirements, performance objectives, and business goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and architecture of FPGA-based modem solutions for advanced communication systems.

  • Define development strategies, technical roadmaps, and implementation approaches for modem and signal processing functionalities.

  • Drive architectural decisions related to FPGA design, embedded systems integration, performance optimization, and scalability.

  • Provide technical leadership throughout the full development lifecycle, from requirements analysis through deployment and validation.

  • Guide the implementation of digital communication algorithms in FPGA hardware.

  • Oversee RTL development, verification, timing closure, integration, and hardware debugging activities.

  • Coordinate technical activities across FPGA, software, hardware, RF, and system engineering teams.

  • Ensure alignment between modem architecture, system requirements, and product objectives.

  • Lead design reviews, architecture reviews, and technical risk assessments.

  • Identify and resolve complex technical challenges related to performance, latency, resource utilization, and system integration.

  • Mentor and support FPGA and modem engineers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the team.

  • Contribute to technology selection, feasibility studies, proof-of-concepts, and innovation initiatives.

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for internal stakeholders and project leadership.

  • Support project planning, effort estimation, and prioritization of technical activities.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in FPGA and RTL development, including significant experience in modem or communication systems.

  • Strong expertise in FPGA design using VHDL (Verilog experience is an advantage).

  • Extensive experience with FPGA development tools and methodologies, preferably within the Xilinx ecosystem.

  • Deep understanding of digital signal processing, wireless communications, and modem architectures.

  • Proven experience leading the design and implementation of communication systems in FPGA.

  • Strong knowledge of embedded system architectures involving FPGA, DSP, GPP, and SoC platforms.

  • Extensive experience with RTL verification, simulation, debugging, and system integration activities.

  • Proficiency with MATLAB or similar tools for algorithm development, modeling, and validation.

  • Experience driving performance optimization, timing closure, and resource utilization improvements.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and influence engineering decisions.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

 

Nice to Have

  • Experience leading FPGA or modem development teams in complex engineering environments.

  • Hands-on experience with SoC FPGA platforms such as Xilinx Zynq or similar technologies.

  • Strong understanding of RF systems and digital baseband processing.

  • Experience with Software Defined Radio (SDR) architectures and platforms.

  • Familiarity with advanced FPGA verification methodologies.

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, satellite communications, or other mission-critical communication domains.

  • Exposure to system-level architecture definition and product strategy activities.
